Climate Change – Kenya Battling 4 Year Old Draught

now climate change of course has

impacted several countries across the

globe . Kenya’s agricultural lands have

been severely affected by change in

weather patterns. these lands are drying

out and turning Barren drought has left

Farmers without crops . they’re relied on

these crops for Generations, here’s

report for more details.

these fields used to provide a regular

Harvest to the people ,who farmed them

but no more,

a four-year-long drought has hit Kenya

hard.

last year the country had to wait for

rainfall till December.

normally the showers come in October or

November.

this time not only the rains came late,

but also it was lower than average.

it’s a devastating blow for the farmers.

most of them sank over 400 dollars in

this planting season alone.

since I was young , my father used to get

a bounty harvest in this Farm , but now

there seems to be a change in climate.

and the rains are no longer Dependable. I

will not Harvest anything not even a

single sack of maize, as possible I have

cultivated four or slightly above 3

acres. and the expense I incurred is not

recoverable and I’m not the only one,

every farmer in this area has lost

everything.

the plants have withered and the Maize

has turned to dry husks . elderly Farmers

have seen the weather change over their

lifetime . most of them practice

subsistence farming on their land, but it

seems like this way of life won’t

survive much longer.

some Farmers have given up planting

crops at all. it’s not worth the expense

just to see them fail.

the issue of climate change from

the experts and from what we have seen

as a mature organization is that, it is

here with us that ,this is going to

happen, it is going to continue maybe

even become worse. so for us as

communities as Farmers as partially then,

we have to adapt and find out ways that

will make us survive. more the old ways

of doing things are not going to work.

the old Seasons that we know are not

going to work. so we have to trust in

science,

climate change experts .and humanitarian

Aid organizations are warning that Kenya

May sink into the worst drought

situation ever.

more than 4 million people could be in

need of sustained humanitarian food

assistance in Kenya for the whole of

2022.

experts say an average of 200 000 to 300

000 households currently need support.

as the situation deteriorates the little

remaining food baskets will run dry.

purchasing power of households are

likely to deteriorate, due to low

agricultural labor opportunities as well,

the value of livestock are also

continuing to decline and staple food

prices are set to go up. this will plunge

the whole country into a food crisis.
