Mosquitoes borne diseases boom in US | Climate Change

As climate change Alters temperatures

and weather patterns around the world,

the risk of vector-borne diseases like

Dengue Fever, malaria and zika virus also

increasing in the recent years. the

number and range of mosquitoes has

boomed across North America,

and here is what that really means for

Global health, and what can be done to

limit the damage

between 2004 and 2006. the number of

diseases caused by insects or mosquitoes

witnessed a sharp rise. the spike rate

almost tripled during this period, and

still continues to grow since then.

according to the Center for Disease

controls division of vector-borne

diseases, virtually all vector-borne

diseases have a climate dimension,

and there are three key factors Rising

temperature affecting vectors, firstly

warmer temperatures make more places

suitable for vectors, heavy rainfall

increases the amount of stranding a

standing water ,which then creates more

breeding areas for many vectors ,likewise

droughts also contributing in their

increased geographical spread by forming

pools of standing water from previously

flowing water . in 2021 Arizona recorded

the largest outbreak of West Nile virus

in Maricopa County.

that here Arizona witnessed three times

more rainfall than usual. which

potentially facilitated a boom in the

mosquito population, leading to a rapid

virus spread more than 1400 cases were

reported ,representing Arizona’s largest

outbreak ever. secondly the change in

climate also leading to an increase in

the duration of the transmitted diseases,

meaning ones who are effective take more

than the normal time to recover.

extending the disease transmission

season, lastly temperature changes also

affecting the behavior pattern of these

vectors . Rising temperatures change the

biting behavior of mosquitoes, reducing

the effectiveness of barriers like bed

nets.

according to our 2019 study in the

journal

neglected tropical diseases by 2050.

this is carrying mosquitoes will

ultimately affect over 500 million more

people than they do today.

the spread will be responsible in

escalating

some of the most concerning infection

diseases like zika, Chikungunya ,West Nile

Virus ,and Dengue Fever . responding sooner

to the impact of climate change , use of

fossil fuels is an ultimate Way,

clean and renewable energy will help

lead us to a better future ,and will also

contribute in Saving Lives from other

climate crises, apart from that increased

health education, vaccine development and

disease management will also help in

combating the spread.
