In the renewable energy World , finding
ways to generate electricity without
using the Sun or the wind is considered
to be the next big step , when it comes to
transitioning away from fossil fuel
energy.
our next report looks at how in the
northwest of Western Australia our test
is underway now to see if green hydrogen
is the way out when it comes to
generating electricity . take a look,
nine hours north of birth in the coastal
town of Denham a local resident named
Joel from longa, has a love-hate
relationship with the weather . when the
weather’s nice, it’s full of people and
when it’s windy, they’ll go with plenty
of sunlight and wind are the reasons why
denim has been chosen to be the site , for
an Innovative renewable energy project.
something you don’t think a lot
about, but it’s good that they’re trying
this sort of thing in a small town like
this anyway.
the trial will cost around 5.35 million
dollars and will see state-owned Power
provider Horizon use electricity
generated by a solar farm to produce
hydrogen . that hydrogen will then be used
in a fuel cell , which will satisfy about
a quarter of denham’s electricity needs.
and in the process, reduce the use of
polluting fuels such as diesel. 100 firm
renewable is the Holy Grail of
electricity, this is what everybody’s
trying to achieve right around the world.
if the trial is Success , denim could
become the model for other Australian
towns to follow suit ,and it could also
help increase energy security.
we are importing into this state
6.7 billion liters of diesel each year,
you just think of that from the carbon
footprint .our supply chain
vulnerability
despite high hopes for the trial ,there
are still doubts as to how viable green
hydrogen will be a fuel source.
it is still very expensive to produce
but Horizon power points out that it’s
exactly thanks to trials like this one.
that hydrogen will eventually become
cheaper to manufacture, each is there to
be grabbed and it’s just a matter of
having all of the right settings now to
go do it . this shows you, it can be done,
the West Coast trial is at the very
least giving an idea as to what
Australia’s green Energy Future could
look like.
