Climate Change| Bolivia’s Capital Covered With Smoke

Bolivia is going through a climate

crisis , the country is experiencing a

drought . where seven regions have been

affected by it ,the government has blamed

this on the La Nina climatic oscillation.

let’s break it down for you, first

on to the latest coming in from on the

ground , wildfires have blanketed the sky

of Bolivia’s Capital with thick clouds

of smoke . local authorities have reported

at least 60 active forest fires in Los

yongas.

while at least five municipalities have

declared disaster areas with total or

partial losses of banana and Coca crops.

the authorities have also urged

residents to use face masks to avoid

respiratory infections.

according to the atmospheric physics

laboratory , forest fires linked to

drought and deforestation in the yongas

region located in northeast of the

capital , have increased the concentration

of particulate matter in the capital by

seven to ten times.

meanwhile meteorologists have said , the

unseasonal fires are the consequence of

extreme drought, delayed rainfall and

deforestation of the farmland.

Bolivia is not only experiencing a rise

in wildfires , the country is also facing

severe drought in many parts of the

country . the area is experiencing its

driest period in almost half a century.

affecting more than 3 000 communities in

the central and southern Andes.

the lack of water is resulting in the

death of animals.

sheep and Lambs that can barely even

stand can be found among the yellow

ground . that can be found as the visuals

have been coming in from the yellow

ground as they look for water.
