Climate Change | EU plans to ban products linked to deforestation

While the bees are killing the trees,

there is some good news for our forests.

the European Union has reached an

agreement to ban the import of several

products. which being considered the main

drivers of deforestation. these products

include coffee cocoa and soy. according

to the EU , when the new rules enter into

Force all relevant companies will have

to conduct strict due diligence . if they

are placed on the EU

markets , the list of products banned has

been identified as a driver of

deforestation . if they came from

deforested Land after December 2020.

The new set of rules demands that, the

importing company should show that their

products are deforestation free . they are

also subjected to prove the precise

geographical information from where the

Commodities were sourced.

by the European commission .The Only

Thing Remains

to this so-called historic move is a

formal adoption of the regulation before

it can enter into force . and Traders will

have 18 months to implement the rules.

according to the environmental Lobby

group Greenpeace, the draft law is a

major breakthrough the worldwide fund

for nature called it groundbreaking and

historic.

the European Parliament also said that,

the law opened the way for various

Technologies like satellite monitoring

and DNA analysis to verify the source of

targeted Imports . another review will

allow the commission to consider whether

it wants to expand it to cover other

ecosystems and commodities.
