The BMW X5 M and X6 M were both updated simultaneously, as was to be expected. The X5 M and X6 M really appear more alike now than they did before the LCI facelift, which is a fascinating development. So rather than focusing on the differences between the X5 M and X6 M, we should ask how the recently updated model stacks up against the model it is replacing. So, let’s compare the two to find out.

Updates to the BMW X6 M went beyond just cosmetic. It now boasts a brand-new engine, better steering, updated suspension, and improved cabin technology. Moreover, the standard X6 model is no longer available; only the Competition variant is. Nevertheless, we are unable to compare how they feel because we haven’t yet driven the new X6 M LCI. Thus for the time being, we’ll limit our comparison to just their designs.

The BMW X6 M LCI differs significantly from its predecessor at the front thanks to three key changes. To begin with, its headlights are considerably thinner and sportier than previously, with arrow-like light elements. Moreover, a new grille insert with horizontal rather than vertical slats is added. Along with being completely rebuilt, the front bumper now sports a zigzag pattern bordering the grille. Overall, I believe the new X6 M is sportier, more intriguing, and more enjoyable, thus it triumphs in this case.

The two autos seem nearly identical from the side. The only major difference is that the new headlights and taillights can be seen a little bit. However, the two automobiles’ profiles are practically identical, therefore this section is irrelevant.
Interestingly, not much has changed in the backyard. One may anticipate that the back of the LCI car would undergo considerable upgrades given how different the front looks, but that isn’t the case. Rather, the only major difference is in the lighting components within the taillights. The modest modification to the rear diffuser is so subtle that it hardly merits note. At goodness it still has quad exhausts, as removing them would have infuriated many fans. Even so, the LCI vehicle wins because of somewhat better-looking taillights.

Nonetheless, there are significant internal changes. The BMW X6 M now incorporates iDrive 8, which has a new digital gauge cluster and a sizable dual curved screen, similar to the X5 M. There are no longer any physical climate controls, and the dash trim has been updated to include an illuminated strip of trim. It’s interesting to note that BMW chose to remain with the previous gear lever for the M vehicles rather than installing its new tiny toggle switch gear selector. The new look is preferable to the previous one, so even though the new climate controls are bothersome, it wins.

The unusual proportions and fashionable shapes that made the BMW X6 M so well-liked are still present. But now, it has a sportier, more captivating exterior, as well as some new technology within. It so prevails in this comparison.
