are Belgium going to become the first
big name to be knocked out of the 2022
FIFA World Cup . well that’s the question
will be answered later today, when the
Red Devils take on 2018 finalists
Croatia in their last group F match at
the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium. the World Cup
in Qatar is realistically the last
chance for Belgium’s golden generation
to live up to their billing. they opened
their campaign in Qatar with a narrow
win over Canada but slumped to a shock
loss against Morocco on Sunday. and now
they stare at an early exit from the
tournament.
that laws not only triggered riots on
the streets of Brussels but also a
friction within the squad . according to
multiple media reports , now Roberto
Martinez who led this side to a third
place finish in Russia, needs to find a
way to bring the best out of his aging
Squad in the must-win match against
Croatia . Belgium are currently third in
the group table and they need a win
against Croatia to guarantee their place
in the last 16. a draw could also see
them through if Morocco lose by three or
more goals against Canada.
I think we’re coming here to try to
compete against , against the best teams
in the world and you need to be as a
team ready to compete. and I think a lot
was about the mentality, a lot was no joy
they had no enjoyment. it was too much
responsibility ,every player was fearful
of losing and I said it a few times, it
was more a case of ,we cannot lose today.
we’re not expected to lose, rather than
seeing an opportunity of being in the
world cup and being able to win.
tomorrow’s easy, tomorrow there is no
doubt a draw and without,
on the other hand Croatia after playing
out a goal-less draw with Morocco
responded with an impressive 4-1 victory
over Canada. that repelled them to the
top of group F .the veterani now just
need a draw to book the play, to book
their place in The Knockout rounds a
victory . meanwhile would guarantee the
top spot if Morocco failed to beat
Canada by a greater gold margin than
them.
this is a decisive match for us to make
it to the knockout stages. this is the
second best football team in the world
and for a couple of years in a row they
were number one . it’s a great team and if
we had to choose ,we would not have
selected this match to be the decisive
one . we do expect a difficult game. we
have a difficult opponent , we shall not
fool ourselves by their underperformance
in the last two games.
