South Africa is home to nearly 80
percent to the world’s rhinoceroses. but
it has also become a hot spot for Rhino
poaching in recent months. South African
National Parks employees have been
involved in alleged criminal activities.
including poaching of animals and
colluding with poaching syndicates .so
South Africa is planning to carry out
lie detector tests at the game reserves.
in a bid , to fight rampant Wildlife
poaching.
South African National Parks Authority
Sun Parks has adopted a new polygraph
testing policy for its employees.
according to park Authority , testing will
be on a voluntary basis in that interim,
but the intention is ultimately to make
polygraph testing compulsory to certain
job categories .according to the
environment Minister Barbara Creasy, the
policy approved in November is expected
to come into Force early next year.
although details of the new lie detector
policy are still being finalized .Sun
Park says
that, the polygraph testing is not the
answer to prevent or even manage staff
involvement in criminality , but it is a
tool that needs to be used as part of
the toolkit.
and with a full understanding of its
benefits the decisions come
as almost 470 rhinos were poached across
the country. between April 2021 and March
2022 and that’s according to government
figures.
while the wild famous Kruger National
Park , a tourist magnet bordering
Mozambique has seen its Rhino population
decrease dramatically over the past
decadeand a half due to poaching. now
according to official Sun Parks
statistics, the parks estimated tally in
2021 was around 2 800 rhinos.
which was down by 70 percent as compared
to ten thousand rhinos which to park
hard in 2008.
