Both the new Audi RS6 Avant performance and the RS7 Sportback performance are loaded with additions that accentuate the cars’ aesthetics and create an emotionally charged driving experience. The strong 4.0-liter V8 biturbo TFSI engine now produces 463 kW (630 PS) of engine power and 850 Nm of maximum torque. The RS6 Avant performance and the RS7 Sportback performance are each available started from December 8 for 135,000 euros.
Performance implies more power for Audi.
For instance, the 4.0-liter V8 biturbo TFSI engine in the Audi RS6 Avant performance and the Audi RS7 Sportback performance, which both boast larger turbochargers and a boost pressure increase from 2.4 to 2.6 bar, is capable of producing 30 PS more engine power and 50 Nm more torque than the base models. This results in an overall rise in power of 441 kW (600 PS) to 463 kW (630 PS), as well as an increase in maximum torque of 800 Nm to 850 Nm. The performance variants accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds quicker than the standard RS6 and RS7 vehicles.
However, there are times when less is more. By reducing the insulation between the engine, the interior, and the rear of the car, Audi has ensured that the RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback will thrill customers with thrilling, next-level audio experiences. The reduction also makes the car eight kilogrammes lighter. The unloaded weight of the performance RS6 Avant is 2,090 kg, compared to the performance RS7 Sportback’s 2,065 kg.
Enhanced driving dynamics are achieved by a new self-locking centre differential.
A standard eight-speed tiptronic transmission with quicker shift times transfers power from the 4.0 TFSI engine to the permanent all-wheel drive quattro. When slippage occurs, more driving torque is automatically given to the axle with greater traction; up to 70% can flow to the front axle and up to 85% to the rear axle. Engine power is sent to the rear axle at a ratio of 40:60 by the strictly mechanical centre differential. The self-locking centre differential is lighter and more compact, which improves driving dynamics and offers considerably more precise cornering and less understeering at the handling limits. The self-steering responsiveness has also been improved, making for a more precise driving experience overall for passengers.
High-end and powerful: 22-inch wheels with powerful tyres
With standard 21-inch ten-spoke aluminium cast wheels and 273/35 tyres, the new RS6 Avant performance and RS7 Sportback performance are ready to go off the assembly line. The regular 22-inch aluminium cast wheels are also available in burnished glossy metallic black, matte grey, matte black, or matte neodymium gold, as well as 22-inch lightweight wheels for an even sportier look. The light weight rims are produced using a high-tech forging-milling method, and the open 5-Y spoke design, which was inspired by motorsport. Its 20-kilogram weight reduction in unsprung masses enhances the throttle response. The new lightweight wheel is around five kilogrammes lighter than the 22-inch aluminium wheel on the existing RS6 Avant or RS7 Sportback.
The new lightweight wheel’s new high-performance Continental “Sport Contact 7” 285/30 tyres are crucial to weight reduction. The tyres continuously provide higher traction on both dry and wet surfaces, and they also lessen understeering while cornering quickly, resulting in more precise handling throughout the whole speed range. Also, when braking from 100 to 0 km/h, the brake path is up to two metres shorter with the new wheels.
The nature of the car can be controlled by the driver thanks to the Audi drive choose dynamic handling system. Efficiency, comfort, auto, dynamic, and two proprietary RS1 and RS2 modes are among the six possible profiles.
The driving modes of performance vehicles, however, offer a significantly more distinctive experience. For instance, the coasting mode is only now automatically activated in the efficiency profile, which means that in speed ranges up to 160 km/h, it shuts down the combustion engine and coasts without consuming any fuel or producing any drag torque. The “dynamic” drive choose mode or driving mode S is active, which further heightens the emotionality, and the engine control unit software has been adjusted to allow for tighter load adjustments in S mode. A noticeable increase in the spread between the various driving modes is made possible by the revised software in the transmission control unit, which also results in quicker shifting times.
Specification for the RS Dynamic Package
The sporty RS6 Avant and RS7 cars come standard with the RS Dynamic Package. This features the increased top speed of 280 km/h (180 mph), dynamic all-wheel steering, the quattro sport differential on the rear axle, and the RS-specific software upgrade that assists the driver with active steering adjustments on the front and back axles.
In addition to the RS Dynamics Package, the RS Dynamics Package plus is a choice that increases the top speed to 305 km/h and adds an RS ceramic braking system. The callipers can be ordered in grey, red, or blue, and the discs measure 440 mm in the front and 370 mm in the back (rear). To reduce the unsprung masses, the RS ceramic braking system weighs about 34 kg less overall than its steel version.
New exterior paint schemes and optical bundles
A total of 16 exterior colours are offered for the new RS6 Avant performance and RS7 Sportback performance, including the first-ever metallic and matte Ascari Blue and matte Dew Silver. The external mirrors, front spoiler, front side flaps, side sill inserts, roof rails, side window trim, and rear diffuser trim are all matte grey on the performance variants, making them stand out. There is also a matte carbon/black optics package available, which features black side window trim and roof rails. Customers can choose between chrome and black for the Audi rings and model name.
Unexpected: fresh interior details and characteristics
The well-known RS design packages in grey and red have been expanded to incorporate the colour blue for the interior. Contrasting stitching in Mercato blue can be seen on the Alcantra black steering wheel rim, as well as the floor mats, the side of the centre console, and the selector lever cuff. The seat belts have a full-surface colour of ocean blue and optional blue accents on the carbon twill inlays used as decorative inlays. Dinamica microfiber, which contains about 45% recycled PET fibres, is used for the selector lever knob and the side of the centre console, while the sports seats have premium Valcona leather upholstery with honeycomb stitching and contrasting stitching in Mercato blue. A front LED in the design is another distinctive element.
Buyers can purchase RS design packages with ornamental inlays, door armrests, and centre armrests in Dinamica microfiber in the three available colour options. A bonus element of this equipment option is the seat centre panel, which has a grey, red, or blue inlay. The perforated sports seats and RS embossing on the seat backs are also coloured to match the customer’s preference.
With the new “Audi Exclusive Customizer” visualisation tool, customers may configure their cars in countless different ways to make their own unique special edition. The application employs a 3D model to help users see the customization process. Users may select from a large variety of specific paint finishes as well as leather and stitching colours.
The displays of the 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus come with new features, such as a blinking shift indicator that, when used with a manual transmission, changes the rpm screen from green to yellow to red while blinking in a manner similar to that used in motorsports to indicate when it is best to change gears. Moreover, Launch Control with redesigned traffic light icons fully utilises the speed potential of the RS6 Avant performance and the RS7 Sportback performance by indicating when to accelerate off the line.
