The popular ChatGPT chatbot’s premium version, ChatGPT Plus, has been made available by OpenAI. With the new service, users will receive a premium experience that includes ChatGPT access at busy periods, early access to new features and upgrades, and faster response times.
The first of numerous planned plans to monetize what has become a viral sensation may be ChatGPT Plus. The API isn’t the only thing OpenAI is currently considering; there are also more cheap plans, business plans, and data packs.
Although ChatGPT will still be accessible for free, the price structure for memberships will make it simpler to maintain widespread access to free material.
In order to continue building the chatbot, OpenAI has declared that it will make use of the knowledge it learned through ChatGPT’s research preview:
As a research preview, ChatGPT was introduced so that we could learn more about the system’s advantages and disadvantages and get user feedback to assist us address its drawbacks. Since then, we’ve received input from millions of users, made numerous significant upgrades, and observed users finding benefit across a range of professional use-cases, including writing and revising articles, coming up with ideas, getting assistance with programming, and learning new subjects.
Early in January, OpenAI announced that it was starting to consider methods to monetize ChatGPT and published a survey explaining the prospective costs and features of a ChatGPT Professional plan, giving users a sneak glimpse at ChatGPT Plus.
Despite complaints and several suspensions, ChatGPT has succeeded for OpenAI in terms of its reputation. By any measure, ChatGPT had an impressive user base of more than a million participants by the start of December. But, maintaining the service is expensive.
Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, calls the operational costs of ChatGPT, which amount to a few cents per chat in total computer expenses, “eye-watering.” ChatGPT Plus now costs $20 per month and offers priority access and quicker response times.
